The Vision Impact Institute recently released a study which revealed that three out of four Americans use something to help them correct their vision, such as prescription glasses or contacts. However, only a fraction of these individuals are putting on a pair of prescription sunglasses before they head out to enjoy their day.
Here at EyeglassX, we are all about offering the best sunglass prescription lenses so that you do not need to sacrifice quality or style in order to protect your vision. When our customers visit our brick and mortar store here in Massachusetts, they hardly need convincing when it comes to choosing prescription shades over nonprescription eyewear. But if you are still on the fence and are wondering if a pair of prescription sunglasses is worth it, we have a few compelling reasons listed below.
Don’t Count on Your Contacts
One common misconception that a lot of our customers have had here at EyeglassX is that wearing any old pair of sunglasses over their contacts is providing them with sun protection, but this is not necessarily the case.
In many situations, wearing contacts while involved in certain outdoor activities is impractical. For example, wearing contacts to the beach can leave your eyes unbearably itchy and watery due to the blowing sand and wind. If you plan on swimming in a lake or ocean, your contact lenses may even become a health hazard. Microorganisms in the water will come in contact with your lenses and may lead to an eye infection.

In order to ensure that you receive the best quality and longest lasting products from us here at EyeglassX, make sure that you have an up to date eyewear prescription from your optometrist or eyecare professional handy when ordering your prescription sunglass lenses online. If you have any questions, feel free to send us an email, give us a call.
I have an Oakley “Switch” Style frame. Can I purchase the lenses and install myself?
Hi Bill,
We can do new prescription lenses in your Oakley frames. You would simply place your lens order online, and then send us a copy of your Rx along with your frames. We would need the frames to do the proper edging and custom installation (return shipping is free).
Please email us at info@eyeglassX.com or call 508.202.7105
Thanks
